We are LittleBonsai, a young and passionate product design company with a bold mission. We are currently based in Boston, MA.
The idea of LittleBonsai was born in May 2011 in a quaint café in the Boston area (we did not have a garage available to us at the time!). With college graduation around the corner, we were discussing our options and ideas for the future. We both felt passionately dissatisfied with the current state of consumer products in the market and decided there and then that there was an opportunity for us to work together to address our concerns.
We are discouraged by the high number of low-quality and expendable mass produced products that are becoming increasingly common in our everyday lives. Many of these products no longer embody the value of craftsmanship—a value that, in the past, has applied beauty, quality, and durability to products ranging from a simple set of razor blades to powerful living room stereo systems. In addition, with a focus in our current market on expendability and obsolescence, many of today's consumer products are designed without consideration for their environmental impact.
As designers and engineers, we believe that it is high time to challenge this status quo and to show the world that products can be designed differently. We believe in crafting products that become lifelong companions—products with emotional value that can be easily repaired and refurbished. We believe that we have a responsibility to develop products in the most environmentally responsible way possible, by minimizing the environmental impact at each stage of the product's life cycle and communicating these impacts to you in a candid and transparent way.
We are also excited to tell you about the story of our products through videos and other media. We will show you how and where our products are made and will explain some of the decisions that went into making them. We work with local suppliers with whom we develop personal relationships, and we believe strongly in the value of their work and input.
We are a young company and we look forward very much to our future. We are already working on the development of new products in our pipeline, which will continue to support our bold mission.
